*Chansey and Shedinja (Jake's VGC Journey): Both these Pokémon are often used for unorthodox and potentially frustrating strategies! Chansey tends to use moves like Minimize to make itself more likely to dodge attacks and Shedinja only takes damage from a very limited pool of moves thanks to its Ability Wonder Guard.
*Mega-Evolved Pokémon (Jake's 2nd Dream Team Pokémon): Certain Pokémon have a temporary further evolved form on top of their permanent final form which is more powerful, might provide a new typing & Ability, etc.

To explain a few of the things Lou talks about in the Pokémon in Wales section…
- ‘Adamant Xerneas’: From the Generation III games (Ruby & Sapphire) onwards, each Pokémon has a Nature, most of which impact one stat positively and another negatively. The ‘Adamant’ Nature boosts Physical Attack & reduces Special Attack, but Xerneas’ Special Attack stat is naturally higher than its Physical Attack - so basically, the Adamant nature of Lou’s Xerneas was hindering it massively!
- ‘Non-Same Type Attack Bonus Kangaskhan’: When a Pokémon uses a move that shares its type, the power of the move is boosted. Kangaskhan is a Normal-type Pokémon but Lou’s did not have any Normal-type moves, when you’d expect at least one in order to take advantage of this power boost.
- ‘Scald Burn Focus Sash Hitmontop’: Scald is a move that has a chance to Burn the foe, a status condition that reduces the power of physical attacks. The Focus Sash item enables a Pokémon at full health to withstand an attack with at least one hit-point remaining. So, Lee’s Hitmontop had its Focus Sash broken by Scald and then the Burn nullified its damage output, putting Lee at a huge disadvantage in the match.

In his youth, Taylor happened upon a Sandshrew that sparkled in Pokémon Gold; he thought nothing of it and knocked it out. He later learned that that was a Shiny Pokémon: a differently-coloured variant with just a 1 in 8,192 chance of appearing... Needless to say, he's on a quest to reclaim that Sandshrew, alongside plenty of other adventures whose tales he thrills us with here: streaming for hours on end in an attempt to find so-called Jim the Delibird, the incredible collection of gaming paraphernalia he and his wife have, his daughter immediately finding a Shiny Tandemaus in Pokémon Scarlet/Violet - and, of course, the 6 Pokémon most special to Taylor that he would choose for his Dream Team. *Shiny Pokémon: Each Pokémon has a Shiny version, an incredibly rare differently-coloured variant that sparkles when encountered (1/8192 chance to find a Shiny in Generation II - V Pokémon games, 1/4096 in Generation VI onwards). They are not otherwise different from regular Pokémon, no more powerful etc, but of course they are highly prized for their rarity.
*Safari Week: An annual event during which Shiny hunters the world over look for Shinies in the Safari Zone, where Pokémon can run away from you...
